There are so many great things to do in the Twin Cities, particularly in the months leading up to the holiday season. Producer Adam Sage and host Sean McPherson are highlighting a couple of the awesome events on offer this week in the Twin Cities. To hear a delightful podcast conversation of these events, click play on our Monday episode from this week.
Monday November 17
On the podcast, Sean called Kavyesh Kaviraj ”one of the most promising jazz musicians to come out of the Twin Cities in the past 30 years.” Tonight, Kaviraj and Abdulkarim will honor two icons of the art form, trumpet player Roy Hargrove and pianist Mulgrew Miller. Doors at 5:30 p.m. Music 7 p.m. Tickets $30+
Tuesday November 18
The combination of PowerPoint slides and dating doesn’t scream fun ... except it does! Producer Adam Sage stumbled into one of these events and had a great time. He said even if you aren’t looking to get a date, it’s “just fun to watch!” Event begins at 7 p.m. Free
Wednesday, November 19
Do you like Gremlins and holiday cheer? We’ve got the event for you. This Surly curated pop-up is a homage to Dorry’s Tavern in the movie Gremlins, and they go the distance to transport you to that scene. Adam celebrated the event for its Gremlin-themed drinks and simply described it as a “goofy time”. The tavern opens at 3 p.m. on Wednesday and is open during Surly’s hours until New Year’s Eve.
Adam’s Personal Recommendation
Our Producer Adam is a big-time bicycle guy, and as much as he’d like to keep his favorite ride secret, he wants everyone to fall in love with biking in the Twin Cities. On Wednesday nights at 6 p.m., the crew from Recovery Bike Shop sets sail from Sociable Cider Werks in Northeast Minneapolis for a gently paced 10-mile ride. After the ride, cyclists enjoy a free cider from Sociable while everyone can “stand around a little fire and talk to folks!” What a treat.

City Cast Twin Cities is a pro-improv crew, and we had to shine a little light on “A Christmas Carol: Unscripted” from the team at ComedySportz. We are particularly excited for this show because our executive producer Anna Weggel will be flexing her dramatic skills in the roles of Tiny Tim and the Ghost of Christmas Past. As advertised, the show is fully unscripted and has a beloved following in the Twin Cities. Strike Theater 7:30 p.m. $16
Friday, November 21
The celebrated Christkindl Market is opening up in the North Loop this weekend, and it is stuffed to the gills with holiday cheer, including live music, German eats, and mulled wine. Our producer, Adam Sage, offered the opening day pro-tip of visiting Itasca Liquor and North Loop Wine and Spirits to do a little wine sampling before making your way to the market.

Do you love VHS-era ephemera? Get in line, everyone does. The Found Footage Film Festival is coming to the Heights Theater in Columbia Heights for two shows on Sunday, November 23. What kind of VHS-era ephemera, you ask? Our producer, Adam Sage, describes it as “weird shit that they find, like a McDonald’s training video.” The 7:30 p.m. show is already sold out, but there are still tickets available for the 4 p.m. showing. As an added bonus, these shows feature a live organist pulling out all the stops!
